After what feels like weeks upon weeks of never-ending grey skies and rain, we are dreaming of sunny days that can be spent outdoors. Vancouver Island is such a beautiful place to explore, with so many adventures waiting within arms’ reach.
When purchasing a property, you can change most of the things that you find inside the home. Don’t like the paint colours? Prefer wood flooring over carpet? Want to upgrade your appliances? These are all things that are easy to fix. What you cannot change is where your home is located. Always take time to investigate your neighbourhood, and the surrounding outdoors, to see what the location has to offer.
There are plenty of communities around the CRD that are literally steps away from parks, trail systems, lakes, and hikes. Take advantage of the unbeatable West Coast geography by spending time outdoors! If you are a cyclist, perhaps a condo in The Railyards, located along the Galloping Goose Regional Trail is the right fit for you. You can hop on your bike and get to work in minutes!
If you don’t need to live near the Downtown core, consider expanding your search to Saanich, Brentwood Bay, Sidney, or the Westshore. The Arbours is a new condo development in Brentwood Bay that is located just blocks from the water – can you imagine your backyard being the ocean, where you can kayak, boat and hang out on the beach?
In town, communities such as Oak Bay, Gordon Head, Cordova Bay and View Royal are great options for people looking to stay near the action but have easy access to natural resources and the great outdoors. Some of our favourite beach-y hideouts are tucked along the Eastern shore as you head up towards Sidney. Wherever you are, beautiful green spaces are easy to find!
And, for days where you want to stay even closer to home, seek out properties with decks, rooftop patios, yards, and large windows to let the sunshine in. Purchase some plants to bring the outdoors inside, and make every room feel as lush as the parks and forests around the Island! (Some of our favourite local home and outdoor living stores are: Biophilia, Brown’s The Florist, Capital Iron and Garden Works)
